Keeping Up With the Joneses – Living Room Reveal

The day is finally here.

The Joneses living room reveal has been a long time in coming.

Keeping up with the Joneses | Love My DIY Home

If you remember, they bought a foreclosure and rehabilitated the poor thing. It was a mess and they brought it from an unlivable beast to a beautiful charming home for a family of 5 – oh wait. Home for a family of 6!

We are so long in bringing this reveal to you because a little baby doll, Maddie Moo made her appearance (April found out she was expecting) and everything changed.

She sort of took over their world and slowed down their progress on the house. They moved in without having finished, hence no “reveal.”

It’s OK.

A home is a home because of who we share it with, not because the trim is finished or the drywall is up in the basement, right?

Let me take you back through time for a minute to remind you of when this little house had little chance of being called a home.

Foreclosed Home Renovation {Love My DIY Home}

It was dirty, smelly and all around disgusting.

The family that renovates together, enjoys the end result much more and has shared something life changing. Here is little Myles the baby of the family, watching Frozen while Mom and Dad work on the kitchen.

The only things they haven’t done yet are the windows – they plan to replace them eventually (mucho moola) but just cleaning them up made a huge difference.

They were badly stained and dented and the humidity was so high the polyeurethane threatened to stay wet FOREVER.

We were busy reading internet accounts of others who ran into the same problem. We were relieved when DAYS later they finally dried.

That could have been a disaster.

So the walls finally got patched and painted. The light fixture went up, locks installed and windows were cleaned up.

Brass is dead, so a new lock set was in order.

They moved in when 90% of everything was done and waited for Madison to come while life’s pace picked up.

Just recently the living room was finished. (You really didn’t expect me NOT to put in a picture of the little doll baby did you?)

The beautiful oak trim went up along with the rods and curtains and wall decor.

Hanging Curtain Rods the Easy Way

Take a piece of paper and mark where you’d like the rod to hang, cutting out a right angle notch to fit on the top and side of the window where you are hanging the curtains. See illustration below.

Then when you are ready to install the hardware on the other side of the window, to get a perfect match, just flip the paper and your mark will be flipped, giving you exactly the same spot for hardware on the other side.

Her rod was fairly long, so she hung this piece to support the rod in the middle.

The TV stand was one of April’s DIY projects.

And of course, we had to include G’ma in the reveal since she was very much involved in the reno but never saw the finished project.
