Baker’s Rack Becomes a French Beauty

Baker’s Rack Becomes a French Beauty

Short and Sweet I'm popping in here to show you a little project I just finished - you can find similar "before" pieces around and about as people often sell these at garage sales and second hand shops. Most people think that if you want to upgrade you must get rid of the old and buy new. Not true.   Here is a BEFORE picture of her when she was just plain Continue reading

An Old China Cabinet Gets a Split Personality – with Country Chic Paint

An Old China Cabinet Gets a Split Personality – with Country Chic Paint

We picked up this china cabinet at an estate sale in town. Everyone wondered why I would buy ANOTHER china cabinet. I already have three. I had plans for this one - but not for china. Nor am I keeping it.   As I said last week, nobody collects or wants china anymore. But they do want buffets AND book shelves. Yep, a buffet and book shelf out of one china cabinet. One unwanted, outdated china cabinet into two highly desirable pieces.     Because the china cabinet was all wood with dovetailed drawers plus a top of Continue reading

Using Java Gel on a Table Top

Using Java Gel on a Table Top

I heard all the hype about General Finishes Java Gel. People kept saying it's the best thing since sliced bread. I had to try it. And now I'm in love. I fell hard and I fell fast.   I'm not the type of DIY'er that jumps in with both feet and throws caution to the wind. I walk around a project sometimes for weeks before I attempt it. I need to know exactly how and what - I don't want to mess my piece up. I won't proceed until I'm fairly sure how to do it and do it right.   So, to help you with your first attempt at Continue reading

Side Table Given New Life – Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company

Side Table Given New Life – Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company

#Sponsored Post   We found an old side table at an auction in Stevens Point. It was one of those days that turned out to be very profitable. We got good prices and I fed my furniture flipping addiction.   We left with a van full of great furniture for our new FB store The Red Shed. My SIL and DH had the privilege of loading the van while my DD and I stood and watched.       This little side table needed help. Not only was it old and in need of repair, but it was just plain messed up. I Continue reading

A GREAT Hardware Option for DIY’ers – D. Lawless Hardware

A GREAT Hardware Option for DIY’ers – D. Lawless Hardware

CLASS IT UP with D. Lawless Hardware #sponsored post   Until now I've been limited to local hardware stores and Hobby Lobby. When you redo a piece of furniture, it's important to update the hardware as well...if needed. Which IMHO, is likely. Flipped furniture looks so fresh with new hardware. I'm turning into a hardware junky!   BUT, my new found love can get expensive. My faves range from $4 to $20 EACH, so I'm always on the lookout for a better deal with a quality look.   When the Fab Continue reading

Lettuce Flower Arrangement – Use What You Have

Lettuce Flower Arrangement – Use What You Have

The Most Unexpected Flower Arranging Item I grew zinnias and asters and brought them inside with my hydrangias. I planted a bunch of other stuff out in my garden.   One of the things that I regrow is lettuce and celery from store bought. The lettuce will regrow once, typically, and the celery will keep growning even when you cut it. I've been experimenting.   Crazy Lettuce I bought lettuce from Aldis and replanted it once it started regrowing (read details here). Once it was out on my deck and I cut what I wanted, I just let it Continue reading

Weeds for Sale – Dirt Cheap! A Fun Garden Sign

Weeds for Sale – Dirt Cheap! A Fun Garden Sign

Weeds 4 Sale - Dirt Cheap! DH replaced the steps leading to our basement, so I took the old boards and painted a sign for the garden - my "step garden" behind my garage. I'll show you the before and afters of that later, but for now, here is how I did my sign (super easy): 1. Grab a board, any board. I used an old one with chippy paint - very rustic and not good for much else. 2. Hand draw your wording - you don't have to be perfect. Just write it on and paint the letters with black paint and a little paint brush. I saw this Continue reading
