DIY Framed Wire Tool Hanger – Re-purpose Old Picture Frames Part 2

This is the second in my How-to Series on Re-purposing Old Picture Frames Here’s my first post with a list of 10 DIY projects to upcycle old picture frames. The plan was to do this last week, but we had a special delivery just after Thanksgiving. We welcomed in a new grandson. All my plans for the rest of the week went out the window! But, I’m back now with a nifty little project for you. It’s easy. It’s cheap. It’s useful. It’s a great decor item. I’m using it as a tool hanger in my craft room. but really, it could be used for just about anything. Use it to hang photos, craft supplies, kitchen tools, office supplies…anything goes. 1. I started with an old frame that I had used to display my kids’ sports pictures. 1. 2. To remove the glossy finish, I sanded the frame with a … Read more

Use What You Already Have to DIY Decorate – Antique Wooden Box

I just had to share this with you! I was taking drawers out of a dresser in our garage that we decided to put up in our closet… then I saw this box. Umm, hello! This box is a treasure! You never know where you're going to find something you can repurpose in your home. Now all I have to do is convince my DH to let me have it… I could use it for photo shoots – can you see a toddler sitting in it with overhauls on? Or I could use it as a table or a bookshelf… Maybe I will sell it – here are some similar ones on ebay. What to do, what to do? Tomorrow I'm going to show you a clearanced lantern from Kohls that I painted and will use for a fall/Christmas accent. Have a great day and please leave a comment on … Read more

DIY workbench how-to {Love My DIY Home}

DIY Workbench for our Garage

A DIY Garage WorkBench My DH and SIL are starting a new business and needed a work area – one that is clean and organized. Since neither of those words describe our garage, my DH tore down one set of shelving in our garage and put together a new workbench. We get our garage door serviced from Titan Garage Doors Coquitlam I will let him tell you about it since I have no idea what he did. Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start… Also, an experienced sheds builder in Charlotte NC says they chose the garage over the shed that they had intended to put it in for several reasons. More room Concrete floor Electricity It’s getting cold and it’s much easier going to the built on garage than the shed that I would have to shovel my way to in just a few … Read more

DIY Silver Painted Decorative Vase

A Silver Vase for the Holidays Here’s another simple DIY spray painting project for you. I have a dozen clear glass vases from my daughter’s wedding two years ago.                                                                                                         …along with a bunch of other stuff, but let’s not go there. I also have a bunch of similar vases that are left over from burning Candlewick candles that same daughter gave me.   Sense a theme here? I thought about donating them, but who would want them? YET, there’s GOT TO be a use for them doesn’t there? So, the “saver” that I am (DH probably prefers “hoarder”) … Read more

Gold and silver metallic spray painted leaves {Love My DIY Home}

DIY Metalic Leaves

My DH brought me home some gold and silver metallic spray paint because I mentioned it would look cool to paint maple leaves silver or gold. A couple of days ago I asked him to buy some blackboard paint and he came home with 2 cans of the gold and metallic paint. Here is the gold spray paint at Amazon (afflink) – Rust-Oleum Metallic Color Spray Paint. You know, it’s like when you ask them to buy milk and bread and they come home with a grocery bag full of other stuff. Except my good doobie hubby thought of me and bought me something that thought would make me happy. I had a friend tell me recently that her favorite Mother’s Day gift was a truck load of manure for the garden. Different strokes for different folks, for sure. He said he wanted to get me a DIY craft that … Read more

Simple DIY – Repurposed Deco

Simple DIY – Repurposed Decor   DO YOU REPURPOSE OR DO YOU JUST TOSS?   A little bit of money, a little bit of time and a little bit of ingenuity… I’ve added a few little things to welcome fall into my home. I bought on clearance a bulletin board that a graduate would use at an open house and changed it into a jewelry holder. Simple changes can easily repurpose items. Ever heard the expression, “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure”? It’s true! The graduate bulletin board was originally $35.00 at Kohls and I got it for $3.50 on clearance. Don’t ya just love Kohls? At the time I wasn’t sure what I would use them for; I thought I could give one or two to someone for Christmas, and maybe use one in the church office. But now that I’ve discovered another use for them (I bought … Read more

Thanks Lisa, for sharing your home accents with us. The Series: A Sentimental Journey 1 A Sentimental Journey 2 A Semtimental Journey 3 (You are here) Here’s a picture of the top of her kitchen cupboards that I’ve thrown in just for fun. Lisa said about her collection, “I have a collection of antique enamel ware and even a very old snow white pitcher and basin set.  They’ve been in the family probably a hundred years, and I’m delighted to have a place to display them that is well out of reach of rambunctious grandchildren or klutzy grandmothers.” Featured below is her framed bobbin lace doily along with her description and tutorial. “In my quest for interesting old stuff, I … Read more

Grandma's hankies made into a valance {Love My DIY Home}

A Sentimental Journey2 – Preserving the Past Through DIY Deco

A Sentimental Journey2 – Preserving the Past Through DIY Decor   As promised, here are the valances Lisa made from her grandmother’s pillow cases. What items to you surround yourself with to remind you that you are/were loved? I have my dad’s Bible on my living room bookshelf – the one he used right up until his passing, 28 years ago when I was 26 years old. It sits right next to an original The Life and Times of Abraham Lincoln, an 1865 book, complete with an old fashioned wood spine and leather cover. Lincoln is one of my heroes of the past. On the bookself next to it is a copper bust of Lincoln, a gift from Jillian and Taylor. Yep, yep, do the math – I admit it – I’m O.L.D. I can see the candle holder my son, Andrew, bought me several Christmases ago, the Woodwick candle … Read more

DIY garden shed handle {Love My DIY Home}

Unique DIY Garden Shed Handle

My friend, Linda, sent this picture to me. She said, “Here you go. This is my garden shed my husband and friend built for me. The original handle fell off and I got another friend to put this up instead. I stained the handle so it looked aged.” It’s amazing the things people come up with! We have an unattractive shed on our property, well, actually two of them that I’d like to spruce up like this. My poor DH. I’m always thinking up new things to do around the house. But the thing is, he’s always saying, “Happy wife, happy life.” Anyone else out there have a cute shed to show? I’m definitely in the market for ideas. Click here for a slide show by HGTV (love that channel) of some really inspiring garden sheds. Please leave a comment below if you have any ideas to share.

Fall Porch DIY Decor

A local farm was selling pumpkins for $2.00, so I bought 3 to use on my porch. There’s something very satisfying about supporting local businesses.  For my fall porch deco I used my funky candle holder, a basket I found at Goodwill for $1.99 (I painted the sign with chalkboard paint), and a mum plant I bought on clearance at Walmart for $3.99. I added some of my other diy projects and some fall finery from our yard. I’ll let the pictures do the talking.   Easy project – spray paint an old banged up watering can!   Click here to see more fall decorating projects on my Pinterest board.     What’s on your deck?
